How to get started with Hybrid Stainless Steel Woks/Pans

Getting Started with Your Happycall Hybrid Cookware

Welcome to the next evolution of hybrid cookware. You may be familiar with older honeycomb patterns; the new Happycall Hybrid series advances this concept with a patented Star Pattern Embossing. This innovative design serves the same crucial purpose: a raised stainless steel grid protects the non-stick surface below. The difference? This grid is now paired with an advanced, healthy ceramic non-stick coating, giving you exceptional durability and even better performance.

If you have read comments about hybrid pans, you might find some users praise the non-stick performance, while others experience frustration. The secret to success is understanding the nature of the pan.

Understanding the Hybrid Stainless Steel Structure

At its heart, the Happycall Hybrid is a stainless steel pan. The patented Star Pattern creates a protective stainless steel structure over the ceramic non-stick layer. Because this steel structure is robust, you need to let the pan heat up properly before cooking to achieve the best results.

Please Note: The video below demonstrates the preheating technique on a previous hybrid model. While the surface pattern has now evolved to the new Star Pattern, the fundamental principle of properly heating the pan remains exactly the same and this is a perfect visual guide.

1. Cooking 101: The Importance of Proper Heating

For experienced stainless steel users, the following will be familiar. For new users, the video above and the steps below are key to unlocking your pan's non-stick performance.

Preheating and the use of oil are important because of the stainless steel grid. Please cook on low to medium heat at all times. The 3-ply body is highly conductive, and high heat is usually not necessary.

Please follow these steps:

  • Add cooking oil to the pan first, and then preheat on low-medium heat for 30-60 seconds.
  • Preheat for a longer time if you are using a cooktop with less efficient heat, such as some ceramic cooktops. The main point is that you must determine the surface is reasonably hot before adding food.
  • In the video, the pan was preheated for about 1 minute on medium heat (a "7" on a scale of 1-10). Some cooktops may need up to 2 minutes.
  • Remember, a properly heated pan and heated oil (not smoking or overheating) are the keys to success.

2. Clean Your Pan Thoroughly Before First Use

New stainless steel cookware often has a fine layer of oil or residue from the manufacturing process. This can be easily removed with warm water and one of the methods below:

  • Cooking oil: Put cooking oil on a paper towel and wipe the entire interior surface.
  • Baking soda: Make a paste with baking soda and water and gently scrub the interior. Alternatively, boil water with a spoonful of baking soda in the pan.
  • Vinegar and water: Boil a 1:1 solution of white vinegar and water in the pan.
  • Detergent: Finally, wash the pan with a soft sponge and normal dish detergent, then rinse and dry thoroughly.

3. How to Wash Your Happycall Hybrid Pan After Use

Be sure to let the cookware cool down before washing. Most of the time, the pan can be wiped clean or washed with a sponge and mild detergent.

In case of stubborn stains or burnt-on food, you can safely use a stainless steel scrubber or steel wool on the hybrid surface. The raised steel pattern protects the non-stick layer from scratching.

4. Avoid High Heat

The ceramic non-stick layer can be damaged by excessive heat. The pan's 3-ply construction is very efficient, so high heat is rarely needed. Proper heat management will ensure consistent performance and a long life for your cookware.

5. If Food is Burnt

While best avoided, accidents happen. Burning food can damage the non-stick surface. To clean, add hot water to the pan and bring it to a boil on the stovetop. This will soften the burnt food and make it much easier to remove. Use a stainless steel scrubber to remove any final remnants.
