Premium Miyazaki Hyuga Binchotan Japanese White Charcoal - 4kg (Small Cut)
Miyazaki Hyuga Binchotan Japanese White Charcoal - 4kg (Small Cut)
While Wakayama is the historical home of Binchotan, Miyazaki Prefecture is Japan's largest producer of high-grade white charcoal. Historically known as the Hyuga province, this region possesses vast forests of indigenous Blue Oak (Arakashi) and a long tradition of charcoal craftsmanship.
This 4kg pack features the "Small Cut" size. Unlike the extremely hard Ubame oak used in Kishu, Hyuga's Blue Oak is slightly softer. This makes it significantly easier to ignite, solving one of the biggest challenges for home users while still delivering the searing 1000°C heat authentic Binchotan is famous for. It is widely regarded in Japan as the best "cost-performance" charcoal—offering top-tier quality that is more accessible and user-friendly.
Traditionalists recognise three specific regions in Japan for authentic Binchotan production:
- Kishu (Wakayama) - The Gold Standard (Ubame Oak)
- Tosa (Kochi) - The Powerhouse (Ubame Oak)
- Hyuga (Miyazaki) - The Smart Choice (Blue Oak)

About Miyazaki Hyuga Binchotan
Miyazaki Hyuga Binchotan is the result of centuries of forestry expertise. The production involves a unique process where the wood is dried naturally for over 30 days to ensure low moisture content before entering the kiln. It is then carbonised at temperatures exceeding 1000°C, burning off impurities and creating a carbon structure so dense it produces a metallic sound when struck.
