How to maintain your nonstick cookware?

Nonstick cookware, known for its remarkable ease of cleaning and excellent cooking performance, requires careful handling to maintain its qualities. It is crucial to note that these pans can be scratched and may suffer damage when exposed to high temperatures, such as those encountered during deep-frying or when using steam.

Maintaining your nonstick cookware properly is the best way to ensure that it meets your expectations. Make sure you follow the instructions that come with your nonstick cookware.

Some brands of cookware come with special instructions. For instance, dogado has a detachable handle that should be detached when cooking. Please refer to the user guide of your brand if your cookware is oven-safe. In general, cookware with a lid and handle is not oven-safe.

Section 1: Types of nonstick cookware

Nonstick cookware comes in two major types: ceramic-based and normal nonstick.

Ceramic Nonstick Cookware

In general, ceramic nonstick cookware is popular and trendy, but it is not as durable as cookware with a regular nonstick surface. It will require extra care.

Here are some examples of ceramic cookware on our website:

Happycall Agave Series & Neoflam Products

  • These products are dishwasher-safe, but handwashing nonstick cookware is recommended.
  • This cookware is NOT oven-safe.
  • The lid knob of the Neoflam Noblesse series can become hot quickly. Use with care.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Ceramic nonstick surface is an excellent coating that does not contain PTFE or PFOA, which allows for healthy cooking. However, it has its limitations:

  • The ceramic nonstick surface is not designed for high temperatures. The cookware will quickly become damaged if it is used at high temperatures. For example, they are not designed for deep frying. We are aware some cookware brands claim that high heat can be used, but as a cookware retailer, we do not recommend this.
  • Use a heat level of 6-7 out of 10. To reach the desired temperature for cooking, preheat the cookware on medium heat rather than high.
  • Cooking will lead to scratches and other marks, but with proper cleaning, the products will remain in good condition. Nevertheless, once out of the box and in use, cookware will not always look brand new.

To ensure that your cookware performs at its best each time you use your cookware, regular cleaning is necessary. Improper care affects how your cookware functions.

Section 4: Dos and don'ts for all nonstick cookware

To get the best out of your nonstick cookware, follow these simple steps.

Use a soft cloth or sponge

Cleaning nonstick surface
When cleaning your cookware, a soft cloth or sponge is the best tool for the job. Wet the cookware first. Then use a mild detergent and a soft cloth to wipe away any food debris and grease.

Some nonstick cookware have excellent nonstick properties. As shown in the image, users often do not clean cookware thoroughly, which results in oil remaining on the surface. This commonly happens with ceramic and nobel coatings. Use a soft sponge to clean the surface.

Never use harsh chemicals

Ammonia, bleach, and other harsh chemicals may damage or discolour your cookware.

Do not cook over high heat

Do not cook over high heat - My Cookware
Exposure to high heat will deteriorate the surface over time. Please cook over low and medium heat.

Radiant heat on the side should be avoided. Especially if you are using a gas cooktop, the flame should not go beyond the cookbase. It will burn the handle.

If food becomes burnt and is stuck to the frying pan, let the pan cool down. Use a soft cloth or a clean sponge and wash the pan with a mild detergent.

Do not use a dirty pan

Food or oil residue will create a sticky buildup. Cookware should be thoroughly cleaned and dried after each use.

Use a soft cloth or a clean sponge and wash the pan with a mild detergent.

Do not use sharp or abrasive objects

This applies to both cooking and cleaning. Using sharp objects like knives or metal spatulas to stir or remove food from the pan can scratch and damage the coating on the pan. Similar damage can occur from using abrasive items like steel wool for cleaning.

Use wooden spoons or silicone spatulas for stirring food. Clean your pan with a soft dishrag or non-metallic sponge or brush.

Season your pan to protect it (optional)

Follow these simple steps:
  • Rinse and completely dry the pan.
  • Use a paper towel to rub about a teaspoon of oil around the inside of the pan
  • (Recommended) Re-season the pan by rubbing it with a small amount of oil each time before using it.
