Ale-net Satsuma Tenmoku Matcha Bowl & Whisk Set - 450ml

The Ale-net Satsuma Tenmoku Matcha Bowl & Whisk Set brings a dramatic and time-honoured aesthetic to the tea table. The deep, matte black base is covered by a flowing, textured white glaze — a striking contrast that produces a unique surface on every piece. This powerful aesthetic is central to the Tenmoku style, prized for centuries in Japanese tea ceremonies.

The classic rounded form sits comfortably in both hands and provides ample room for whisking matcha to a smooth froth. Each bowl is crafted in Japan, with slight variations in the glaze pattern that underscore its artisanal quality. Paired with a natural bamboo chasen (whisk), the set provides everything needed for an authentic tea experience.

About Tenmoku Glaze

Tenmoku is a high-iron Japanese pottery glaze fired at high temperatures. Originally from China, it became highly esteemed in Japan — particularly for tea bowls used in the tea ceremony. The glaze is known for its deep, lustrous black and brown tones, often producing distinctive patterns such as oil spots or hare's fur that form naturally during the firing process. Each Tenmoku piece is, in this sense, unrepeatable.

About Mino Ware

Mino ware (Mino-yaki) is a style of Japanese pottery produced in the Gifu Prefecture, Japan's largest pottery-producing region. Its history spans over 1,300 years, and its adaptable designs have evolved to suit changing lifestyles, making it the most popular style of pottery in Japan today.
