Citric acid needs time rather than force. A single 30g sachet dissolved in a full pot and left for two to three hours removes far more scale than scrubbing ever will — and scrubbing is what damages the non-stick interior.
The Tiger Citric Acid Cleaner is for the inside of electric kettles and electric water dispensing pots. Minerals naturally present in tap water — calcium, magnesium and iron — build up on the inner container as limescale, which slows heating, affects heat retention and clouds the water.
What It Cleans
- Suitable for: electric kettles and electric water dispensing pots — Tiger and comparable brands.
- Removes: white limescale, calcium spots, cloudy residue and brown mineral staining.
- How often: every two to three months, or as soon as build-up is visible.
- Contents: four single-use sachets of roughly 30g. One sachet per cycle.
- Not for tea and coffee stains. Those are organic stains, not mineral scale — use an oxygen-based cleaner for vacuum flasks instead.
How to Use It
- Start empty and cool. Make sure the kettle or pot has been emptied and is no longer hot.
- Add one sachet. Tip the full 30g directly into the container.
- Fill with cold water to the maximum water level.
- Bring it to the boil. Close the lid and boil. For an insulated flask, pour in boiling water after adding the citric acid instead.
- Leave it to soak for two to three hours. This is where the descaling actually happens.
- Discard the water carefully once the cycle is done.
- Wipe away any residue with a soft sponge only — never an abrasive pad.
- Rinse and boil once more with clean water, then discard that water too.
Important Notes
- Always start with cold water in electric appliances.
- Do not exceed the maximum water level, and keep the lid closed while the cycle runs.
- Follow your appliance's own cleaning cycle if it has a dedicated citric acid setting.
- Remove activated carbon filters before cleaning, and check that mesh filters are seated correctly.
- Not for aluminium, copper or unlined containers unless the manufacturer confirms it is suitable.
Safety & First Aid
Never mix citric acid with chlorine-based products such as bleach. Citric acid is food grade but is not intended for consumption. Store it in a cool, dry place, out of reach of children.
Rinse under running water for at least 15 minutes, then seek medical advice immediately.
Do not induce vomiting. Rinse the mouth and drink one to two cups of water or milk, then seek medical advice immediately.
Wash thoroughly with water. If irritation develops, seek medical advice.
