Keisai Miyajima Matcha Bowl & Whisk Set - 450ml

A matcha bowl (chawan) and bamboo whisk (chasen) from the Keisai series, in the Miyajima colourway. A pale oatmeal glaze flows down over a deep amber-brown (ame) base, while the glossy brown interior sets off the green of whisked matcha.

The 450ml bowl is 11.7cm across, giving the 100-prong whisk room to work. Where the two glazes meet varies from piece to piece, so each bowl is unique. Mino ware, made in Japan.

What's Included

A replacement whisk is available separately: Japanese Chasen Bamboo Matcha Whisk - 100 Prong.

Key Features

  • 100-Prong Whisk: Fine bamboo prongs whip matcha into a smooth, even froth.
  • Everyday Bowl Too: The bowl also suits rice, soup or a small side dish.
  • Microwave-Safe Bowl: Suitable for reheating food.
  • Made in Japan: Mino ware from Gifu Prefecture.

Care Instructions

Hand wash the bowl with a soft sponge and mild detergent — it is not suitable for the dishwasher. Rinse the whisk in warm water after each use without detergent, and let it dry completely before storing.

About Keisai

The Keisai series takes its colours from Japanese scenery. Miyajima pairs a deep amber-brown ame glaze with a pale overglaze that runs down the sides during firing.

Use & Care
  • Care guide: How to care for handmade Japanese tableware.
  • Microwave & dishwasher: Most of our tableware handles both, but pieces with gold or metallic accents should stay out of the microwave — check each product page.
  • First use: A quick wash in warm water is all new pieces need.
  • Stacking: Place a cloth or paper between stacked pieces to protect glazes from scratching.
  • Stubborn stains: A soak in warm water with a little baking soda lifts tea and coffee stains gently.

  • Every piece is unique: Slight variations in glaze, colour and shape are the mark of handcrafted pottery — no two pieces are exactly alike, and that's the point.
