Kohiki Black Clay Crosshatch Pattern Bowl - 12cm

This 12cm bowl showcases the traditional Kohiki technique, where a slip of white clay is applied over the black clay body. This process gives it a soft, milky white interior that contrasts beautifully with the exposed dark clay at the rim. The exterior is adorned with a meticulously hand-carved crosshatch pattern, providing both visual appeal and a textured grip.

With a suitable size for individual servings of rice, soup, or desserts, this bowl brings a sense of rustic elegance and Japanese wabi-sabi aesthetic to your table.

About Kohiki Pottery

Kohiki ceramics are a unique style of pottery originating from Korea and introduced to Japan in the 16th century. The distinctive characteristic is its appearance, which resembles white powder (Kona) spread on the ceramics. This is achieved by covering a dark clay body with a thin white slip, followed by a translucent glaze. The result is a soft texture and a warm, milky white finish that became popular among practitioners of the tea ceremony.

Use & Care
  • Care guide: How to care for handmade Japanese tableware.
  • Microwave & dishwasher: Most of our tableware handles both, but pieces with gold or metallic accents should stay out of the microwave — check each product page.
  • First use: A quick wash in warm water is all new pieces need.
  • Stacking: Place a cloth or paper between stacked pieces to protect glazes from scratching.
  • Stubborn stains: A soak in warm water with a little baking soda lifts tea and coffee stains gently.
