Mino Yaki Tokusa Japanese Rice Bowl - 11.5cm - Blue

The tokusa (horsetail grass) pattern is one of the oldest motifs in Japanese ceramics: straight vertical strokes running from rim to foot, painted freehand so that the spacing and weight of each line vary slightly. On this bowl they are rendered in indigo against white porcelain.

At 11.5cm in diameter the bowl sits comfortably in the hand and holds a standard serving of rice, with room for small donburi portions and side dishes.

Use & Care
  • Care guide: How to care for handmade Japanese tableware.
  • Microwave & dishwasher: Most of our tableware handles both, but pieces with gold or metallic accents should stay out of the microwave — check each product page.
  • First use: A quick wash in warm water is all new pieces need.
  • Stacking: Place a cloth or paper between stacked pieces to protect glazes from scratching.
  • Stubborn stains: A soak in warm water with a little baking soda lifts tea and coffee stains gently.
