Shiro Kannyu Matcha Bowl - 450ml

A straight-sided matcha bowl (chawan) in a pale grey-white glaze covered with fine kannyu crackle lines. The foot is left unglazed, showing the warm tan of the clay beneath.

The 450ml bowl measures 11.4cm across, leaving room to whisk matcha without splashing. The crackle pattern forms during firing, so no two bowls are the same. Mino ware, made in Japan.

What's Included

  • 1 x Shiro Kannyu Matcha Bowl - 450ml

Also available as the Shiro Kannyu Matcha Bowl & Whisk Set, which includes a 100-prong bamboo whisk (chasen).

Key Features

  • Kannyu Glaze: A crackle glaze long used in Japanese tea ware for its quiet, aged look.
  • Straight-Sided Form: Upright walls give a steady grip while you whisk.
  • Unglazed Foot: The bare clay foot ring is typical of hand-finished Mino ware.
  • Made in Japan: Mino ware from Gifu Prefecture.

Care Instructions

Hand wash only with a soft sponge and mild detergent — not suitable for the dishwasher or microwave. Dry thoroughly, especially the unglazed foot, before putting away, and avoid sudden temperature changes.

Use & Care
  • Care guide: How to care for handmade Japanese tableware.
  • Microwave & dishwasher: Most of our tableware handles both, but pieces with gold or metallic accents should stay out of the microwave — check each product page.
  • First use: A quick wash in warm water is all new pieces need.
  • Stacking: Place a cloth or paper between stacked pieces to protect glazes from scratching.
  • Stubborn stains: A soak in warm water with a little baking soda lifts tea and coffee stains gently.

  • Every piece is unique: Slight variations in glaze, colour and shape are the mark of handcrafted pottery — no two pieces are exactly alike, and that's the point.
