Shiro Kannyu Matcha Bowl & Whisk Set - 450ml

A matcha bowl (chawan) and bamboo whisk (chasen) for preparing matcha at home. The straight-sided bowl has a pale grey-white glaze covered with fine kannyu crackle lines, and an unglazed foot that shows the warm tan of the clay beneath.

The 450ml bowl is 11.4cm across, wide enough to whisk freely with the 100-prong whisk. The crackle forms during firing, so every bowl is different. Mino ware, made in Japan.

What's Included

A replacement whisk is available separately: Japanese Chasen Bamboo Matcha Whisk - 100 Prong.

Key Features

  • Kannyu Glaze: A crackle glaze long used in Japanese tea ware for its quiet, aged look.
  • Straight-Sided Form: Upright walls give a steady grip while you whisk.
  • 100-Prong Whisk: Fine bamboo prongs whip matcha into a smooth, even froth.
  • Made in Japan: Mino ware from Gifu Prefecture.

Care Instructions

Hand wash the bowl only — it is not suitable for the dishwasher or microwave. Rinse the whisk in warm water after each use without detergent, and let it dry completely before storing.

Use & Care
  • Care guide: How to care for handmade Japanese tableware.
  • Microwave & dishwasher: Most of our tableware handles both, but pieces with gold or metallic accents should stay out of the microwave — check each product page.
  • First use: A quick wash in warm water is all new pieces need.
  • Stacking: Place a cloth or paper between stacked pieces to protect glazes from scratching.
  • Stubborn stains: A soak in warm water with a little baking soda lifts tea and coffee stains gently.

  • Every piece is unique: Slight variations in glaze, colour and shape are the mark of handcrafted pottery — no two pieces are exactly alike, and that's the point.
