Ginpo Hana Mishima Donabe Japanese Clay Pot - 22cm (Size 7)

Embrace the heart of Japanese home cooking with the Ginpo Hana Mishima Donabe. The Hana Mishima series is one of the most iconic and beloved styles of donabe, instantly recognisable by its light grey finish and traditional floral (hana) pattern. It is the quintessential Japanese clay pot, cherished for its versatility and timeless design.

This 'Size 7' pot is perfect for serving two to three people, making it ideal for noodle soups, stews, porridge (okayu), or shared hot pots. The thick, high-quality clay provides excellent heat retention, cooking food gently and keeping it warm long after it has been brought to the table. This is the standard version for gas and electric cooktops; an induction-compatible model is also available.

Use & Care
  • User guide: Everything from first use to everyday care.
  • First use: Simmer rice porridge in your new donabe first — the starch seals the porous clay and strengthens the pot.
  • Before cooking: Make sure the outside base is completely dry before it goes on the flame — a wet base can crack.
  • Never heat empty: Always have liquid or food in the pot before heating.
  • Avoid sudden temperature changes: Don't run cold water into a hot pot — let it cool first.
  • Storage: Dry thoroughly before putting away to prevent mould in the porous clay.
Good to Know
  • How donabe is made: The special clay behind these pots and why it matters.
  • How donabe ages: Fine lines and colour changes over time aren't flaws — they're character.
  • Heat source: Donabe is made for open flame and shines on a gas burner — it's not suitable for induction cooktops.
  • Donabe recipes: Hotpots, rice and more to get you started.
