Hoso Tokusa Chawanmushi Bowl With Lid

A lidded bowl made for chawanmushi, the Japanese steamed egg custard. Pour in the egg mixture, steam it with the lid on, then take it straight to the table — lifting the lid is part of the meal.

It holds approx. 160ml, a standard single serve, and the fine Hoso Tokusa stripes give it a classic Japanese look.

What's Included

  • 1 x Hoso Tokusa Chawanmushi Bowl With Lid

Key Features

  • Made for Steaming: Goes into the steamer with the egg mixture inside, then straight to the table.
  • Fitted Lid: Keeps the custard covered while it steams and stays warm until served.
  • Hoso Tokusa Pattern: Fine vertical lines inspired by tokusa (horsetail reed), a traditional Japanese motif.
  • Versatile Small Bowl: Also suits small simmered dishes, appetisers and desserts.

Care Instructions

Wash with mild detergent and a soft sponge, and avoid abrasive scrubbers that may mark the glaze. Glaze colour and finish vary slightly from piece to piece.

Use & Care
  • Care guide: How to care for handmade Japanese tableware.
  • Microwave & dishwasher: Most of our tableware handles both, but pieces with gold or metallic accents should stay out of the microwave — check each product page.
  • First use: A quick wash in warm water is all new pieces need.
  • Stacking: Place a cloth or paper between stacked pieces to protect glazes from scratching.
  • Stubborn stains: A soak in warm water with a little baking soda lifts tea and coffee stains gently.
