This set includes two Toyo Sasaki sake glasses accompanied by two traditional masu cups, crafted from the fragrant hinoki cypress wood (檜). This type of wood is known to enhance the flavour of sake, adding a subtle aromatic note.
To enjoy sake the traditional way:
- Place the sake glass in the masu cup.
- Pour the sake into the glass until it overflows and fills the masu cups.
- After drinking sake from the glass, drink the remainder from masu cups.
- A masu cup can also be used as a sake cup.
The masu cups, rooted in Japanese tradition, were historically used as a measure for liquids and grains, with each masu cup holding 180ml, a volume also known as a 'Gō' (合) in Japan.
