River Light Kiwame Nitrided Carbon Steel Induction Frypan - 20cm

The 20cm Kiwame frypan is the smallest size in the River Light range, making it an excellent choice for compact, everyday cooking. Its smaller footprint is ideal for single serves and smaller portions — from frying an egg or making a pancake to cooking a small piece of fish or a couple of fillets. Despite its compact size, the generous 12.5cm flat base provides excellent contact with the cooktop and plenty of practical cooking space.

At just 560g, the 20cm frypan is exceptionally easy to lift, manoeuvre and store. Its compact size also makes it a practical option for smaller kitchens, quick meals and cooks who prefer a lighter pan for everyday use. The nitrided carbon steel surface provides improved resistance to rust while retaining the excellent heat response and seasoning characteristics of carbon steel.

Key Features

  • Smallest Frypan in the Range: The compact 20cm size is ideal for single serves, smaller portions and quick everyday cooking.
  • Generous 12.5cm Flat Base: The wide flat cooking surface provides excellent cooktop contact for its compact size, making it particularly practical for eggs, pancakes and small portions.
  • Lightweight & Easy to Handle: Weighing approximately 560g, it is easy to lift, manoeuvre and use for everyday cooking.
  • Compact & Easy to Store: The smaller diameter and detachable wooden handle make this pan convenient for kitchens where storage space is limited.
  • Premium Nitrided Carbon Steel: The steel undergoes a special nitriding heat treatment, creating a hardened, corrosion-resistant and durable surface.
  • Excellent Heat Response: Carbon steel heats quickly and responds well to temperature adjustments, making it suitable for frying, searing and sautéing.
  • Detachable Wooden Handle: The handle can be removed for compact storage.
  • Induction Compatible: Suitable for use on induction, gas, electric, ceramic and halogen cooktops.

Seasoning & Care

Like all carbon steel cookware, this pan needs a quick season before first use to start building its natural non-stick patina. The nitrided surface provides improved resistance to rust and makes the pan easier to maintain than untreated carbon steel. Full step-by-step instructions are available in our carbon steel user guide.

Use & Care
  • Care guide: Our step-by-step guide and video for seasoning and care.
  • First use: A one-time 5-minute oil seasoning is all it takes.
  • After cooking: Wash with warm water while still warm, dry thoroughly over low heat, then wipe on a thin coat of oil.
  • Storage: Don't leave food sitting in the pan — it's a cooking tool, not a storage container.
  • Rust: Almost always a sign of too little oil. Scrub it off and re-season — the pan will recover.
  • Acidic foods: Tomatoes and vinegar are fine in short bursts — read our guide before simmering them.
Good to Know
  • Patina: Marks, stains and darkening with use are normal — the surface improves as you cook.
  • Nitrided vs non-nitrided: Nitriding strengthens the steel and resists rust — our buying guide explains the difference between brands.
  • Prefer no seasoning? Our nonstick guide covers the low-maintenance alternative.
  • Induction: Most of our carbon steel range is induction-compatible — check the specs on each product page.
