Seki Magoroku Self-Standing Hinoki Cutting Board

The Seki Magoroku Hinoki Cutting Board combines the traditional benefits of Japanese cypress wood with a modern, space-saving design. Crafted from Hinoki, a wood prized for its natural antibacterial properties and resistance to water, this board offers a soft surface that cushions knife impact to preserve blade sharpness.

A key feature of this model is the integrated rotating stand made of dark walnut wood. This allows the board to stand upright on the countertop, ensuring quick, hygienic air drying and convenient storage. Available in two sizes to suit different kitchen workspaces.

Please select your desired size from the options.

What's Included

  • 1 x Seki Magoroku Self-Standing Hinoki Cutting Board (Size selected at purchase)

Key Features

  • Self-Standing Design: Features a built-in walnut wood lever that rotates to support the board upright, promoting fast drying and preventing mould growth.
  • Blade-Friendly Hinoki: The soft grain of Japanese Cypress (Hinoki) absorbs the shock of cutting, significantly reducing edge dulling on high-quality knives.
  • Natural Hygiene: Hinoki wood is naturally resistant to water and possesses inherent antibacterial qualities.
  • Lightweight: The low density of the wood makes the board easy to lift, wash, and manoeuvre.
  • Dual-Wood Aesthetic: The pale cypress board contrasts elegantly with the dark walnut stand.

Care Instructions

  • Hand Wash Only: Wash with mild detergent and warm water.
  • Dry Upright: Always rotate the stand and place the board upright immediately after washing to allow air to circulate.
  • No Dishwasher: Never use a dishwasher or soak in water, as high heat and saturation will cause the wood to warp or crack.
  • Avoid Direct Sunlight: Dry in a shaded, well-ventilated area to prevent cracking.

Use & Care
  • Knife care guide: Cleaning, sharpening and storing your Japanese knives.
  • Cutting board guide: Caring for your Japanese rubber cutting board.
  • Knives: Hand wash and dry immediately after use — never the dishwasher. It's the single biggest thing you can do for the blade and handle.
  • Sharpening: A whetstone keeps Japanese knives at their best — honing rods designed for Western knives can be too harsh for harder Japanese steel.
  • Storage: Store knives in a block, on a magnetic strip or with blade guards — loose in a drawer damages the edge.
Good to Know
  • Choosing a Hasegawa board: Which board suits your kitchen — our guide cuts through the confusion.
  • Gentle on blades: Japanese rubber boards are kind to knife edges — one reason chefs pair them with Japanese knives.
