Saji Thermatec Induction Donabe Japanese Clay Pot - 25cm (Size 8)

The Saji Thermatec Induction Donabe pairs traditional Japanese design with built-in induction compatibility. This Size 8 clay pot performs on all cooktops, including induction, thanks to its Thermatec technology.

Unlike most induction-compatible donabe that require a separate metal plate, the Thermatec's heating element is integrated directly into the clay base. The seamless design gives even heat distribution for authentic hot pot (nabe), stews, and slow-cooked meals on any stove. At 2.0 L, this Size 8 suits three to four people — the everyday size for weeknight nabe and sukiyaki.

What's Included

  • 1 x Saji Thermatec Induction Donabe with Lid - 25cm (Size 8)

Key Features

  • Built-in Induction Technology: Saji's Thermatec design works on induction cooktops without a separate metal plate.
  • All Hob Compatibility: Use it on induction, gas, electric, and ceramic cooktops, as well as in the oven or microwave.
  • Superior Heat Retention: High-quality clay heats evenly and retains warmth long after cooking.
  • Lightweight & Durable: Lighter than traditional Iga ware and easier to handle.
  • Low Water Absorption: The dense clay resists odours and stains and dries quickly.

Easy Care - No Seasoning Required

Thanks to its advanced Thermatec material with a very low water absorption rate, this modern donabe does not require initial seasoning (medome). It is ready to use after a simple wash, making it exceptionally convenient and easy to maintain. Hand wash only — not suitable for the dishwasher.

Use & Care
  • User guide: Everything from first use to everyday care.
  • First use: Simmer rice porridge in your new donabe first — the starch seals the porous clay and strengthens the pot.
  • Before cooking: Make sure the outside base is completely dry before it goes on the flame — a wet base can crack.
  • Never heat empty: Always have liquid or food in the pot before heating.
  • Avoid sudden temperature changes: Don't run cold water into a hot pot — let it cool first.
  • Storage: Dry thoroughly before putting away to prevent mould in the porous clay.
Good to Know
  • How donabe is made: The special clay behind these pots and why it matters.
  • How donabe ages: Fine lines and colour changes over time aren't flaws — they're character.
  • Heat source: Donabe is made for open flame and shines on a gas burner — it's not suitable for induction cooktops.
  • Donabe recipes: Hotpots, rice and more to get you started.
