Ginpo Hana Mishima Induction Donabe Japanese Clay Pot - 28cm (Size 9)

The Ginpo Hana Mishima Donabe is now fully compatible with modern induction cooktops. This iconic clay pot is instantly recognisable by its light grey finish and traditional floral (hana) pattern, bringing Japanese home cooking to any kitchen, regardless of your stove type.

This large Size 9 pot serves four to five people. It comes with a stainless steel plate that, placed inside the pot, allows it to work seamlessly on induction hobs. Suited to family-sized stews, soups, or shared hot pots, it cooks food gently and retains heat to keep your meal warm at the table.

What's Included

  • 1 x Ginpo Hana Mishima Induction Donabe with Lid - 28cm (Size 9)
  • 1 x Stainless Steel Induction Plate

Steam with it: This pot is steamer compatible — add the Touga Steamer Plate - 23cm (Size 9) to steam vegetables, dumplings and fish above the broth.

Key Features

  • Induction Compatible: A removable stainless steel plate allows this traditional clay pot to be used on modern induction cooktops.
  • All Hob Versatility: Also works on gas, electric, and ceramic hobs, as well as in the oven (remove the steel plate for microwave use).
  • Iconic Hana Mishima Design: The beloved traditional floral pattern on a classic light grey glaze, emblematic of authentic Japanese donabe.
  • Superior Heat Retention: High-quality clay heats slowly and retains heat exceptionally well.
  • Made in Japan: Authentic Banko ware from Yokkaichi, a region famous for durable donabe.

Seasoning & Care

Before first use, perform medome (rice porridge seasoning) to seal the clay and prevent cracking or leaking. Full step-by-step instructions are in our donabe user guide.

  • Avoid sudden temperature changes (e.g. do not put a cold pot on high heat, or place a hot pot on a cold or wet surface).
  • Hand wash only once cooled. Do not soak for extended periods.
  • Dry thoroughly before storage to prevent mould. Remove the steel plate before microwave use.

Use & Care
  • User guide: Everything from first use to everyday care.
  • First use: Simmer rice porridge in your new donabe first — the starch seals the porous clay and strengthens the pot.
  • Before cooking: Make sure the outside base is completely dry before it goes on the flame — a wet base can crack.
  • Never heat empty: Always have liquid or food in the pot before heating.
  • Avoid sudden temperature changes: Don't run cold water into a hot pot — let it cool first.
  • Storage: Dry thoroughly before putting away to prevent mould in the porous clay.
Good to Know
  • How donabe is made: The special clay behind these pots and why it matters.
  • How donabe ages: Fine lines and colour changes over time aren't flaws — they're character.
  • Heat source: Donabe is made for open flame and shines on a gas burner — it's not suitable for induction cooktops.
  • Donabe recipes: Hotpots, rice and more to get you started.
