Mikawa Portable Konro Grill Starter Set
Mikawa Portable Konro Grill Starter Set
This complete starter set provides everything needed for an authentic Japanese tabletop grilling experience. The centrepiece is the Mikawa Konro—often known as a hibachi grill in Australia—a portable grill expertly crafted from natural diatomite.
The porous diatomite material offers excellent heat insulation, allowing charcoal to burn longer and at a more consistent temperature. This efficient heat management is perfect for cooking juicy, flavourful yakitori and other grilled delicacies.
What's in the Starter Set:
- Mikawa Portable Konro Grill (27cm): The main diatomite grill body.
- Wooden Base: Essential for protecting your table surface from the high heat of the grill.
- Grill Meshes: Includes one reusable mesh and one disposable (28cm) mesh.
- Miyazaki Hyuga Binchotan (2kg): A pack of premium, long-burning Japanese white charcoal.
- Echo Stainless Steel Skewers (2 Packs): A total of 10 skewers, ideal for authentic yakitori.

Please Note
This grill is manufactured from natural diatomite mud. Minor cosmetic imperfections, such as small chips or an uneven texture on the interior, are a normal characteristic of the material and do not affect the grill's performance.

Safe Use & Care
For outdoor use only. The grill body becomes extremely hot during operation. Always place it on the included wooden base and handle with heat-resistant mitts. A grill of this size typically requires approximately 0.5kg of binchotan per session. Never use water to extinguish charcoal; let it burn out naturally or use a dedicated charcoal extinguisher.

What Made Okunoto Konro Grills / Hibachi Grills So Special?
- Okunoto konro grills are frequently seen in cooking competitions. Popular in Japanese barbeque restaurants.
- Uses diatom mud from the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture.
- Diatom mud is an excellent heat insulator. Walls of the grill are over 5cm thick.
- When used with binchotan, the heat is high, consistent, and concentrated. Provides an exceptional barbeque experience.
- Suitable for grilling wagyu, yakitori, fish, vegetables, and various barbeque recipes.
Use and Maintenance
- Avoid carbon monoxide poisoning. Always grill outdoors in well-ventilated areas.
- Take proper care to extinguish the fire. Do not use water. If water is absorbed, diatom mud becomes brittle. It will also lose its durability.
