Kinka Okunoto Konro Grill Starter Set - 54cm (Medium)

This starter set bundles the 54cm Kinka Okunoto Konro — the benchmark artisanal diatomite grill trusted by professional chefs and restaurants — with everything needed for large-group grilling straight out of the box.

The grill is hand-cut from a single block of natural diatomite quarried in the Okunoto region of Japan's Noto Peninsula, prized for its heat insulation. This allows the included binchotan charcoal to burn hotter for longer, cooking with a strong radiant heat that seals in juices. Sized for groups of 4–8 people. What's in the Starter Set

The grill also arrives with its own mesh, which varies by production batch: either one 50 x 20cm mesh or two 27 x 21cm meshes.

Important Notes

For outdoor use only. Charcoal grills must be used in a well-ventilated outdoor space.

Fine cracks are normal and do not affect performance — diatomite expands and contracts with heat, so hairline cracks can appear within the first few uses. Our guide to cracks and the lifecycle of a konro grill explains what is normal and what is not.

Returns policy. Please choose carefully. Due to the delicate nature of diatomite grills, we do not accept returns for change of mind.

  • Lighting binchotan: Dense white charcoal takes longer to light than regular charcoal — our guide shows the safe way.
  • Ventilation: Use your konro outdoors or in a well-ventilated space only — never in an enclosed room.
  • Water: Never pour water on a hot konro — sudden temperature change can crack the body. Let the coals burn down or remove them safely.
  • Reuse: Binchotan can be snuffed out in an airtight metal container and relit next time.
